DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Transfer of jurisdiction agreements TJ‑979‑0 (8) ‑‑2M‑52, between the Iowa Department of Transportation and Johnson County, transferred that portion of Unsigned Iowa 979 from the east corporation line of Iowa City easterly to the west ramp of Interstate 80 (at a point approximately 788 feet west of the point of intersection with Interstate 80) to county jurisdiction on July 31, 1987. The official description of Unsigned Iowa 979 in Johnson County should be revised to reflect this transfer.

Unsigned Iowa 979 begins at the west ramp of Interstate 80 approximately 1 ¾ miles east of Iowa City and travels easterly to the Johnson‑Cedar County line at a point approximately 5 miles north of the SW Corner of Cedar County.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended to approve revising the description of Unsigned Iowa 979 in Johnson County and including the new description in the primary road system.

New Description ‑ Unsigned Iowa 979 in Johnson County described as follows:

Beginning at the west ramps of Interstate 80 (approximately 788 feet west of the point of intersection with Interstate 80) in the south part of Section 5‑T79N‑R5W; thence in an easterly direction through the south part of Section 5‑T79N‑R5W (junction Interstate 80) to a point near the SE Corner Section 5‑T79N‑R5W; thence easterly following substantially the section line of Sections 9, 10, and 11‑T79N‑R5W and easterly through the north part of Section 12‑T79N‑R5W to the Johnson‑Cedar County line at a point near the NE Corner Section 12‑T79N‑R5W, Johnson County (NW Corner Section 7‑T79N‑R4W, Cedar County).

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records Unsigned Iowa 979 in Johnson County should be officially included into the Primary System.

Unsigned Iowa 979 begins on the east corporation line of Iowa City and travels easterly to the Johnson-Cedar County line at a point approximately 5 miles north of the SW Corner of Cedar County, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate Unsigned Iowa 979 in Johnson County as follows:

Beginning on the east corporation line of the City of Iowa City connecting with an unnamed street at a point approximately 500 feet south and 300 feet east of the NW Corner Section 7-T79N-R5W; thence in an easterly direction through Sections 7, 8 and 5-T79N-R5W (junction Interstate 80) to a point near the SE Corner Section 5-T79N-R5W; thence easterly following substantially the section line of Sections 9, 10 and 11-T79N-R5W and easterly through the north part of Section 12-T79N-R5W to the Johnson-Cedar County line at a point near the NE Corner Section 12-T79N-R5W, Johnson County (NW Corner Section 7-T79N-R4W, Cedar County).

NOW THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Unsigned Iowa 979 in Johnson County, Iowa.

NOTE: To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.
